By Bobby Dale, SEOPA 1st VP and 2017 Conference Chairman
Well, it’s time once again to turn our thoughts to the next SEOPA conference. This year we will gather at Kentucky Dam Village State Park, October 18-21. We have some great program ideas and it is coming together nicely. We are planning a diverse program to ensure there is something of interest and use for everybody. Some topics of interest will include Kentucky Lake fishing, a newsmaker about Kentucky’s Bourbon Trail, elk restoration east of the Mississippi, tips for better writing, marketing one’s wares through social media, and a session on wilderness survival and rescue, to name only a few.
One area of focus will be the ever-growing presence of women enjoying the outdoors. I’m pleased to announce that TV personality and NWTF spokesperson Brenda Valentine will deliver our keynote address and participate in a roundtable discussion on this subject. This way-overdue topic will be discussed by an all-star cast of ladies who are pioneers in the field.
We all enjoy wonderful fish and game cuisine, right? Well, thanks to the North Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association, we will again welcome Scott Leysath, the Sporting Chef, who will share some of his recipes and tips for preparing delicious meals from our outdoors’s harvests. Spouses will be welcome to attend this seminar/demo. Scott will also prepare lunch on the grounds at shooting day.
We are working on resurrecting the softball game and treasure hunt, both so popular at recent conferences. Hopefully we will have a photo contest throughout the conference for you shutterbugs.
Our conference this year promises to be an outstanding one in one of America’s most beautiful venues. Conference registration will begin June 1, but it’s not too soon to book lodging. We anticipate a big turnout, so make your plans and reservations soon.
See y’all there!
